Australia’s Minimum Wage to Increase from 1 July 2026

Great news for workers across Australia, including international students working part-time while studying.
The Fair Work Commission has announced the outcome of the 2026 Annual Wage Review, delivering a significant increase to the National Minimum Wage and minimum award wages.

What Has Changed?
The National Minimum Wage will increase by 6%, rising from:
- Current rate: $24.95 per hour
- New rate: $26.44 per hour
The new wage rates will take effect from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2026.
Employees who are paid weekly, fortnightly, or monthly should check with their employer to ensure the updated rates are reflected in their payslips from July onwards.
Many international students work part-time in industries such as: Hospitalit, Retail, Aged Care, Disability Support, Cleaning Services, Administration.
If you are employed under the National Minimum Wage or a Modern Award, you may be entitled to higher pay from July 2026.
It is important to regularly review your payslips and understand the award that applies to your role. Knowing your workplace rights can help ensure you receive the correct wages and entitlements.
Check Your Pay Rate
If you are unsure whether your current pay rate is correct, you can:
- Review your employment contract
- Check the award that applies to your occupation
- Use Fair Work’s Pay and Conditions Tool
- Speak with your employer or manager
